It’s my privilege.

When I walk down the street, I worry about being kidnapped and raped. #thatsmyprivilege.

When I see a law enforcement officer, I can feel safe. #thatsmyprivilege

When I’m shopping I don’t worry that I’ll be stopped because of my skin. #thatsmyprivilege

George Floyd did not die because of a crime. He didn’t die because of an untrained officer. Those 4 officers knew what was happening. They knew what he was doing. It is a system of oppression and power.

If you believe that it is okay to treat someone as less than human, you are the problem. If you believe that the police have the authority to treat someone like they did George Floyd – YOU are the problem. I don’t care what they look like, who they love, or what creed they follow. If YOU believe they don’t have rights or value as a human then YOU are the problem. If you think that their truths are “opinions”, then YOU are the problem.

What happened to George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tamir Rice, Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Samuel Dubose, Sandra Bland, Walter Scott, Terrence Crutcher, and SO many others was, and is, a product of systematic racism. It is the result of people, like the president, devaluing human rights. They mourn the loss of life, but they don’t call out the rights that were taken away from those people. They don’t call them out because they do the same thing at the boarder. They think it’s okay to keep people in cages. They think it’s okay to deny the right to a fair trial, a fair justice system. They think it’s okay for people to be homeless, and for children to go hungry, because “they’re just lazy”. “I don’t want my tax dollars to pay for them to eat, they should get a job!”

If you believe in anything I just quoted, you make me sick.
